Wilmoth Conner Clark was born Sunday, February 7, 1926 to Newton O. and Florence Dowdy Drewery in Motley, Virginia. Although she was raised during the Great Depression, her outlook was positive and her demeanor was kind.
Some say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and Wilmoth was a testament to this. Her eyes would twinkle and shine, even on days that she didn't feel well, and those closest to her know this was a reflection of the light in her soul.
She loved to reminisce about her time spent in Baltimore, MD where as a young woman she worked in an ice cream shop and her husband, Stanford, worked in the shipyards. Her husband eventually had to leave to fight in WWII, so she returned to the area she called home in Stanleytown, VA.
Wilmoth had an energy that never stopped. She loved to travel and visit the sick and elderly. Her strength kept her going until the very end, and she possessed a rare courage that came from knowing that her faith would keep her safe in the face of anything.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Wilmoth, knew that she was a follower of Jesus, and she would proclaim her love for him regularly. She was also a fan of the late Billy Graham, and loved to read books about his life and listen to his sermons.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a friend; but above all else, she was a follower of Christ and a lover of all that He stands for.
On the evening of Sunday, April 28, 2019, her dream of meeting Him became a reality.
The family is grateful to the staff of Fork Mountain Rest Home in Franklin County for their loving care during her stay.
Wilmoth will be greatly missed by her daughter, Judy Williams and her husband Gaylan of Bassett, VA; sons, Ernest Conner and his wife Shirley of Stoneville, NC, Leo Conner and his wife Debbie of North Augusta, SC, and Wayne Conner and his wife Jean of Collinsville, VA; brother, Paul Drewery of Bassett, VA; and, 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Standford H. Conner; sisters, Emma Wike, Mary Overton, Martha Anne Minter, and Nancy Coleman; and brother, James Drewery. She was also predeceased by her second-husband, Leonard Clark.
A private service was held at Roselawn Burial Park with Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home caring for the family.
Those wishing to spread Wilmoth's love of Jesus may make a memorial contribution in her name to Thomasson Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 176, Collinsville, VA 24078.
