William Dale James, age 91, of Martinsville, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center. He was born on July 28, 1922 in Leaksville, NC to the late Rufus and Bessie Potter James. He was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel V. James in 2008, his son, William D. James, Jr., his brother, Lloyd James, four sisters, Ruby Gaston, Rivers Moore, Mary Huff and Frances Shreves.

He was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church has retired as a truck driver with Jones Motor Co. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 335 Inf Div. under the Command of General George S. Patton. He was missing in action twice during the Battle of the Bulge, one time being buried alive. For his service he received the EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Expert Infantry Badge and Combat Infantry Medal. He was very proud of his Wartime service.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura James of Martinsville and a grandson, William Justin James of Bartlett, TN.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The Honor Guard veterans will also be pallbearers for Mr. James. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2013 for one hour prior to the service in the chapel of Roselawn.
