Wilber Ray Haley, Sr., age 90, formerly of 95 Arrowhead Farm Lane, Martinsville, died on October 06, 2010 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Roanoke. He was born in Henry County on June 02, 1920 to the late Edward B. and Virginia Wigington Haley. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Doris Lovell Haley, four brothers, Edward and Marvin Haley and twin infant brothers, and five sisters, Elsie, Myrtle, Leola, Irene and Louise.
He was a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church where he was Asst. Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, VFW and a past Martinsville City Volunteer Fireman. He had worked at Pulaski Furniture, American and W.M. Bassett.
He is survived by two sons, Russell "Pete" Haley of Martinsville and Wilber "Ray" Haley, Jr. of Ridgeway, one daughter, Robin Diane Haley Nickerson of Camden, SC, two sisters, Gertrude Young of Eden, NC and Jewell Flynn of NC, three grandsons, one granddaughter and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Mills will officate the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. before the service on Monday at Roselawn and at other times at the home of his son, Russell Haley, 2411 Old Chatham Rd., Martinsville.
