Viven "Irene" Chaney Shively, age 74, of 116 Wood Street, Martinsville, died on January 19, 2012 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Henry to the late Melvin and Etta Mae Wright Chaney on March 14, 1937. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Rosevelt Chaney and Herman Chaney.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Martinsville. She had worked for American Furniture for 20 years and for Bassett Furniture for 27 years.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Buren Lewis Shively of the home, one son, Lane Shively of Martinsville, one daughter, Vivian Handy of Collinsville, four sisters, Bonnie Lawson of Ridgeway, Avis Smithers, of Lexington, NC, Lessie Foley of Patrick County and Cheryl Carter of Collinsville, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Alvin Nunley officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service in the chapel of Roselawn and at other times at the home of her son Lane Shively, 304 Greyson St., Martinsville.
