Vera Eloise Barker age 83 of Blue Ridge Rehab in Martinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday July 5, 2014. She was born November 1, 1930 in Henry County to the late Posey Lester and Minnie Barker. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by three brothers, James H. Barker, Andrew L. "Bill" Barker, and Calvin E. Barker, and six sisters, Edna Hairfield, Blanche Stultz, Fleet Lovell, Magdalene Gardner, and Marie Frye. Ms. Barker was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a graduate of the former Axton High School, and attended Perry Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Tultex for 43 years. She was an active member of Mount Calvary Church since 1948.

She is survived by a special friend, Billy Cross, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Tuesday July 8, 2014 at 11:00 am in Mount Calvary Church with Pastor Steve Tatum officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. Pallbearers will be, Donald Keatts, Kenny Meadows, Calvin Meadows, Chris Willard, Wayne Willard, Saford Hunt, Andrew Barker, Jr., and L.T. Frye. The family will receive friends on Monday July 7, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Mount Calvary Church, and at other times at the home of her niece Shirley Keatts, 414 Centerville Road, Axton, VA.
