Guthrie Martin
November 19, 1929 – July 6, 2025
Thelma Elizabeth Guthrie Martin, 95, of Martinsville, went home to be with her Lord, July 6, 2025. She was born November 19, 1929, to the late Charlie Jacob, and Alie Elizabeth Guthrie. She retired from DuPont, yet her career path prior, she had worked for Little Hub Restaurant, for her husband at Church Street Union 76, The Kennedy House Nursing Home, Regent Industries, and Dr. Eugene Randall. She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church since 1958. She served several years as a Sunday School Teacher in different age groups and over 50 years in the adult choir. Thelma not only proudly proclaimed her faith in Jesus Christ as a born again Christian, but by living the example. Anyone who was blessed to know her found that in their, or other's time of need, Thelma, was present to provide exceptional care and support. Thelma exalted her walk with God, through her compassion and concern for others as Christ instructs those who has placed their faith in Him. Thelma was well respected by her family, church family and all who knew her.
In addition to her husband Thelma was preceded in death by one son, George H. Martin, Jr., four brothers, Buddy, Ernest, Carl, and Charlie Guthrie, and one sister, Mae Parcell. Surviving is one son, Dennis Keith Martin, three daughters, Faye Sigmon, Reginia Williams, and Carol Trammell, one sister, Mary Frances Wilson, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 10, 2025, at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Christian officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
