Obituary

Strother Talbert Fulcher, Sr., age 82 of 112 Finch Court, Martinsville, died Thursday May 6, 2010 at his home. He was born December 2, 1927 in Patrick Springs, VA to the late Ellis Reed and Gertie Lieu Fulcher. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Virginia Mae "Jingle" Carter Fulcher in 2002, his brother Garland Kenneth Fulcher, and his sister Carolyn Fulcher Eggleston.
He was a graduate of John D. Bassett High School and Perry Business School. He owned and operated Fulcher's Gulf Service and U-Haul for over 30 years. He was a Charter Member of Stanleytown UMC, where he formerly served as an usher, on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and the Administrative Council. He was a former member of the Retail Merchants Association, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Piedmont Masonic Lodge and Danville Scottish Rites. He was a Fifty Year Life Member of Patrick Henry Lodge #82 Knights of Pythias, where he served as Chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Committee for over 15 years and helped build over 500 Cystic Fibrosis Therapy Tables. He became a Past Chancellor in 1973, Pythian of the Year for Patrick Henry Lodge in 1982 and PDDGC in 1985 of the Grand Lodge K. of P., of Virginia. He was very active member of Fairystone Squares, and other local square dance groups. He also was an active member of the Senior Bowling League at Sportlanes Bowling Alley until last year.
He is survived by his wife Mildred C. Fulcher of the home, one son, S.T. Fulcher, Jr., two step sons, Brad Wilson of Axton, and Tim Wilson of Lexington, SC, one daughter, Jenny Fulcher Callaway of Richmond, three step daughters, Pam Wilson of Roanoke, Wendy Wilson Harrison of Martinsville, and Jill Wilson Brown of Axton, four grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Monday May 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Stanleytown United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Cleveland and Elder Kenneth Bowles officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville with Pythian Graveside Rites by Patrick Henry Lodge #82. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday May 9, 2010 at Stanleytown UMC, and at other times at the home on 112 Finch Court, Martinsville. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Stanleytown UMC,P.O. Box 206, Stanleytown, VA 24168. Arrangements are by Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home.
