Sarah Wells passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. She was born June 26, 1925 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late Atticus and Pearl Vickers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Keennon Wells, a sister Katherine Wilson and by her husband James Harold Wells Sr. in 2014. They were married for 66 years.
She is survived by a son, James H. Wells jr., two daughters, DJ Latourette, Toni Wells, grand-daughter Kimberly Karanouh, and two great-grandchildren, Kameron and Tristan Karanouh.
She joined First Presbyterian Church of M'ville in 1947 upon moving there, and was always an active member. She taught children's Sunday School for 10 years, was President of Women of the Church 3 times, member of the women's circles, led and taught Bible study to Seniors at nursing homes, sang in the choir for many decades, and was ordained an elder of the church.
Sarah was active in countless and sundry other church programs as she loved her church family, and most of all she loved the LORD. She taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to love the LORD. Sarah came to M'ville to teach business college and did so for several years, then she married and had a family, and worked at Dupont. She was a member of Piedmont Arts, the Red Cross, the bird club and she took many classes, learned to weave on her large loom, taught her family to paint china and how to fire pieces in her kiln.
Her education included LaGrange College in Georgia and Liberty University, Va., with a double major in Bible and Business. She was also a member of the book club of M'ville for many years.
Sarah was an artist, with her medium being oils, although she utilized other mediums and painted still lives and landscapes. Her family inherited her love of the arts. Sarah also played piano, which was her instrument and once we saw her pick up a guitar and began playing it by ear! She gave the love of music to her family. Sarah was the most loving, kind wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As believers in Christ, we look forward to being with her in heaven, because she is in our hearts forever, thanks be to God.
