Obituary

Sandy Richard Puckett, age 58 formerly of Spencer, died March 15, 2009 at his home in Taipei, Taiwan. He was born June 6, 1950 in Martinsville to Florence Ward Puckett of Spencer and the late Elbert Clayton Puckett.
He was a graduate of Drewry Mason High School, Class of 1968. He graduated from the college of William and Mary in 1972, with a Bachelor's Degree in Math. He received a Master's Degree in Mathmatics from Western Carolina University. He has been a member of OKT fraternity since 1969. In 1972, he joined the Peace Corps and taught school in Lesotho, Africa. He came back to Martinsville in 1974 and worked for Social Services, and he also taught school in Jackson County, NC for 9 1/2 years. From 1983-1985 he taught at the American school at the Hague. During this period of time, he exhibited his art works and paintings in the Hague. In 1991, he went to Taipei, Taiwan to teach in the American school until his death. During his lifetime, he traveled all over the world and visited over 30 foreign countries. He also wrote and published children's books.
In addition to his Mother, he is survived by one brother, Clay Puckett of Spencer, one nephew and many other relatives in the area.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in the Ward Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel and at other times at the home of his mother, Florence Puckett, 627 Marigold Rd., Spencer.
