Samuel Allen Hubbard, age 65, of 111 Lawson Road, Martinsville, died on March 27, 2013 at the VA Medical Center, Salem. He was born in Bassett on March 9, 1948 to the late George Wilson Hubbard and Nannie Bet Ayers Hubbard. In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by a brother, George W. Hubbard, Jr. and a sister, Rebecca Faye Hubbard.
He was a member of Pocahontas Baptist Church in Bassett. He had retired from the military with 24 years service in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Connie Hubbard, two sons, Samuel A. Hubbard, Jr. of Bassett and Douglas Wayne Hubbard of Martinsville, a step-son, Dewey Archer of Martinsville, six sisters, Mary Barker, Mattie Ann Carter, Betty Shepherd, Nancy Hubbard all of Bassett, Rose Hutchens of Roanoke, and Jane Cruise of Lynchburg, two grandchildren, Tiffany Archer and Brandon Terry and one great-grandchild, Braylynn Terry.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Don Forrester officiating the service. Interment will follow with full military honors presented by the U.S. Army and the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard at the Ayers Family Cemetery in Glade Hill. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 6-8 p,m. in the chapel of Roselawn and at other times at the home on Lawson Road.
