Sallie Ruth Jones Merriman age 84 formerly of 79 Merriman Helmick Dr., Axton, VA, died Friday May 20, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She was born April 3, 1927 in Farmville, NC to the late Joseph Jones and the late Jennie Parker Jones Moore. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Marion D. Merriman in 1994, and one brother Blaney Frank Tyson.
She was a member of Clearview Wesleyan Church, and had been employed at Dupont in Martinsville and was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons, Mike Merriman of Martinsville, Steve and Tim Merriman of Axton, two daughters, Jennie Cox of Ridgeway, and Celeste Anderson of Stuarts Draft, VA, two brothers, Alfis Jones of Eden, and Wilbur Tyson of Garnett Valley, PA, two sisters, Lucy Lemons of Phenix City, AL, and Mollie Williams of Mayodan, NC, 9 grandchildren, one step grandchild, 5 great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Tuesday May 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Karen Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Monday May 23, 2011 in the Chapel at Roselawn, and at other times at the home on 79 Merriman Helmick Dr., Axton, VA.
