ussell "Wayne" Bennett, age 89 of Collinsville passed away at his residence on Monday, October 23, 2017. He was born in Martinsville on November 25, 1927 to the late Joseph Russell and Mary Stultz Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Janet Bennett who passed away August 20, of this year. Janet and Wayne are together again.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville and had retired with 38 years service with Finney Building Supply as Manager. Wayne was an active member of Patrick Henry Lodge #82, Knights of Pythias for over 55 years, where he was a Past Chancellor, Past Grand Lodge Rep., a Trustee of the Lodge for over 50 years, a 50 year life member of the Pythian Order, Pythian of the Year two times, a member of the Southeastern Pythian Association for over 40 years, Secretay of the P.S. Ford Lake Board of Directors for 50 years, a member of Rajah Temple #195 DOKK for 35 years where he served as Treasure and PIR, a Grand Lodge of Virginia Trustee for 18 years, a Past Grand Chancellor of Virginia, and a recipient of the PSC Harry Gosper award and a member of Martinsville Temple # 23 Pythian Sisters. He and His wife Janet were beloved and respected members of the Pythian Order.
Wayne is survived by his son, Billy (Karen) Bennett of Martinsville, his step-daughter, Teresa Draper Foley of the home, two grandsons, Jonathan Bennett of Richmond and Joseph Bennett of Indiana, two great-grandchildren, Courtney Bennett and Christopher Bennett both of Winter Haven, FL and two step-grandsons, C.J. Foley of Tavares, FL and Jamie Foley of Martinsville.
The service for Wayne will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn with Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon and Rev. John Wiederholt officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn.
