Richard Thomas
Perdue
Apr 22, 1934 — Aug 30, 2026
Martinsville
Richard Thomas Perdue, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Martinsville, Virginia. Born in 1934, Richard lived a full and meaningful life defined by his devotion to his family, his hard work, his wonderful sense of humor, and his kind spirit. He was a pillar of strength to those who knew him and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He never met a stranger. Richard was a mechanic and shop supervisor for the City of Martinsville for 33 years. Outside of work he was happiest when he was fishing and sharing his mechanical knowledge with others. His greatest joy, however, was his family, whom he loved unconditionally and fiercely.
Richard was survived by his daughter Wanda Crist (Dave), his son Charles Perdue (Tammy), his granddaughters Valerie Ratliff (John) and Beth Stinnett (Matthew), his grandson Ricky Davis, seven great grandchildren: John Ratliff, Jayce Ratliff, Jacob Ratliff, Jackson Miller, Mattison Stinnett, Hailey Turner, and Uzziah Davis, a son-in-law, Wayne Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John Oliver and Maggie Pearl Perdue, his loving wife of 42 years, Frances Perdue, his son, Ronnie Perdue (Buck), his daughter Julie Davis, his brothers, Walter Lee, William (Bill), Jay O., and Wayne Perdue, and sisters Gloria Angle and Frances Brown. Richard's humor, wisdom, and gentle nature will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday September 2, 2026, in Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Stinnett officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 P.M.
