Rachel Hancock Via age 92, formerly of Martinsville, went to be with the Lord on Monday Jan. 5, 2015 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born Dec. 1, 1922 to the late John Robert and Emma May Fulcher Hancock. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Vernon V. "Bunny" Via in 2001, her sisters, Milcie Bishop, Velda Kinard, Helen Moore, Bea Hayslett, Sylvia Dingman, and Goldie Tompert.

Mrs. Via was a longtime member of Mt. Bethel UMC, and had worked as a seamstress for over 50 years. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, an excellent cook, and she loved to fish.

Mrs. Via is survived by her two daughters and son in laws, Becky Via Hartis and her husband Ricky, Jane Via Wells and her husband Allen, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be Thursday Jan. 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Steve Garner and Allen Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter Becky on the Daniels Creek Road.
