Peggy Little Newsome age 79 of Bassett, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday Feb. 28, 2016. She was born July 12, 1936 in Wayne County, NC to the late Jimmy and Gladys Reeves Little. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Melvin Harold Newsome, and one brother, Jimmy Little, Jr.

Peggy was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville where she was involved in many areas of the church activities, and she was also an auxiliary member of Gideon's International. Also, she was a LPN and worked as a operating room technician at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville for nearly 40 years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Melvin Newsome of the home, four daughters, Brenda Carter of Fieldale, Linda Newsome, Sherryl Anderson, and Melody Jo Oliver, all of Collinsville, one brother, Billy Little of Wayne County, NC, three sisters, Emily Davis, Diane Syverson, and Sandra Barbour, all of Wayne County, NC, five grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be Wednesday Mar. 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm in First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Rev. Larry Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the home on 108 Clements Drive, Bassett.
