Nannie Bates Martin age 75 of the Mount Olivet Road, Martinsville, died Friday March 25, 2011 at her home. She was born August 8, 1935 in Pittsylvania County to the late Cubie and Linnie Adkins Bates. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, J.R. Martin, and her brother, Hubert Bates.
She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, and had worked for Thomas Systems for about 20 years, and she later retired from CSI Services.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Bates of Martinsville, and Jesse Oakes of Florida, one step-son, Jay Martin of Arizona, two step-daughters, Cathy Hale and Stacey Martin of Las Vegas, NV, one sister, Doris Roach of Lynchburg, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Monday March 28, 2011 at 12:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Stanley Waddell officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Chatham. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home of her son Larry Bates, 3701 Greenhill Dr., Martinsville.
