June 27, 1946 – December 17, 2023
Milford Curtis Witt, Sr., 77, of Martinsville went to be with his Lord and Savior
Sunday, December 17, 2023. He was at home, surrounded by family. Milford was
born, June 27, 1946, in Patrick County, the son of the late George Dennis Witt and
Grace Gilbert Witt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
brothers Herman, Thurman, and Sherman Witt.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Dawn Nester Witt; children, Angela Beam (Jeff),
Curtis Witt (Jennifer), Paige Scott (Keith), Jonathan Witt (Corrinne) and Jennifer
Yeaman (Johnny); grandchildren, Tyler Beam (Rachel), Jessica Beam, Nicholas
Witt, Michael Witt, Morgan Sherrill (Brenden), Mallory Scott, Megan Scott, Lucas
Witt and Lillian Witt; sister Ruth Sater and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks for the caregivers and medical
professionals who cared for Milford over the last year at Friendship Rehab South
and Good Samaritan Hospice. The family also appreciates the steadfast support
provided by close friends and family.
Milford attended Hardin Reynolds High School and then Johnson Bible College in
Tennessee. After returning home from college, he worked for Bryant's Plumbing
and then later opened his own plumbing business, Witt's Plumbing Service. He
also served as a lay preacher and filled in for many local churches. Upon retiring
from the plumbing business, he served as the minister at Fort Trial Christian
Church for seven years until his health declined in 2020. He was a devoted
husband, loving father and grandfather known as "Papa". He will be greatly
missed by his family and friends.
Milford said "his funeral was preached by the way he lived" so to honor his wishes
the family will hold a private service. The family will receive friends on Thursday,
December 21, 2023, at Fort Trial Christian Church from 6-8 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Good Samaritan
Hospice, 2408 Electric Rd, Roanoke, VA 24018; Johnson University, 7900 Johnson
Drive, Knoxville, TN 37998; Fort Trial Christian Church, 6356 Virginia Avenue,
Bassett, VA 24055 or to the charity of their choice.
