Mildred Louise Holley Minter, age 94, joined her heavenly family on December 31, 2018. She was born in Axton on May 10, 1924 to the late Joe Samuel Holley "Sammy" and Estelle Wilson Holley. Louise was married to Daniel Curtis Minter for 70 years and he predeceased her in 2010. She was also predeceased by two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Louise lived life to the fullest and celebrated often with her seven children. Her "girls", Patricia Lawton, (Raymond), Myrtle McCoy, Shirley Massey (Woody), Vickie Walton (Robert), Cherry Minter, Nancy Haynes and Julia Crews (Danny). Louise has 12 living grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She has two sisters-in-law, Nancy Inman and Gertrude Minter and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Louise grew up in the Axton and Whitmell communities. Primitive Baptist was mother's original family faith. She joined the Axton Baptist Church 50 plus years ago and in recent years became active at Carroll Memorial United Methodist Church. She was loved by many friends and family who have predeceased her in life. Her spirit of patience, love, humility and kindness will forever remain a memory for the family to celebrate. Louise was a woman who sacrificed living her life serving others. She was interested in keeping up with the local and national news and often shared her thoughts with her children. She contributed often to local causes and sacrificed over and over for the well being of others. She enjoyed living on her farm and especially loved all of God's creation. Her love for animals was consistent throughout her life as she adopted many strays that were dropped off over the years on the farm. She loved the farm and always had a flower garden that displayed her favorite flowers. She had a green thumb and could always "root" anything. Her porch could never handle all the flowers. She loved cooking for her family and Sunday lunch was her favorite time to host.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Carroll Memorial UMC, 402 Axton Rd., Axton, VA 24054. Visitation will be Friday evening, January 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Roselawn Chapel, 103 Clearview Dr. Martinsville, and at other times at 55 Sharon Drive, Axton. The Rev. Amanda Harris will officiate the service with other family members participating. Online condolences may be made at www.roselawnchapelfuneralhome.com .
