Mildred Emma Spencer Lawson, age 80, formerly of Martinsville, died on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Memory Care of the Triad in Kernersville, NC. She was born on January 21, 1934 in Henry County to the late Charlie Arthur and Delma Gay Wagner Spencer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Akers Lawson in 1978, a daughter, Theresa Lawson Corns, and a brother, Milton Spencer.
She attended Clearview Wesleyan Church and was a graduate of Bassett High School. She was a lifelong textile worker for Sales, Pannill and retired from Tultex. Mildred had many hobbies including, growing and arranging flowers, was an excellent cook, she baked and decorated cakes and loved to artistically create ceramics. Mildred's later years were spent with her three devoted pets, Bear, Cochise and Mufasa.
She is survived by two sons, Dewey Edwin (Brenda) Lawson of Covington, VA and Curtis Michael Lawson of High Point, NC, a daughter, Lisa Lawson (Danny) Turney of Kernersville, NC, two sisters, Macie S. (Alvin) Smith of Rocky Mount, and Ruth S. (Billy) Mize of Preston, her sister-in-laws, Vivian Belcher Spencer Fisher and Ruby Spencer, seven grandchildren, David (Sharon) White, Robert Lawson, Mitch (Denise) Lawson, Robert (Tiffany) Smith, Derrick (Elizabeth) Turney, Kayla Turney, Devin Turney, and three great-grandchildren, Kane Turney, Kaia Turney and Capri Lawson.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor William Hartsfield officiating the service and interment to follow in the Henry Memorial Park. Her pallbearers will be selected form the grandsons listed above and nephews, Carl Spencer, Bobby Upchurch, Bruce Mize, Brian Mize, Denny Smith and Chad Smith. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the chapel of Roselawn.
