Mildred Harris Ayers age 85 of Martinsville went home to be with the Lord on Monday May 16, 2016 at Blue Ridge Manor. She was born Oct. 2, 1930 in Patrick County to the late Oliver Cromwell and Ethel Elizabeth Craddock Harris. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband David Ayers in 1990, her brother Frank G. Harris, her sisters, Beatrice H. Mills and Kathleen Baker, and brother in law, George D. Baker.
Mildred was a graduate of Stuart High School Class of 1948, and wore her class ring proudly every day. She was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church since 1958, and used her financial expertise in her service as Sunday school secretary for many years. She treasured her church family and took great comfort in her faith in God, and her love of Jesus Christ. She worked many years in bookkeeping for Martinsville Office Supply and Woolworths. After retiring, Mildred enjoyed traveling the USA with her many friends. Mildred was truly a giving angel. She gave of herself daily, and for many years she took care of her sister Kathleen and brother in law, George David Baker.
She is survived by her brother in law, Leslie Mills of Ashland, VA, her sister in law, Dorothy Harris of Winston Salem, NC, two nieces, Sharon H. Mackey and Aleta H. Jones both of Winston Salem, NC, two nephews, Floyd Mills and Marvin Mills both of Ashland, VA. She also leaves to cherish her memory, great nieces, great nephews, great, great nieces, and great, great nephews.
Her funeral service will be Saturday May 21, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Tim Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Chapel.
