Maurice S. "Chick" Smith, age 85, of 3467 County Line Rd., Patrick Springs, went to be with the Lord on Sunday Nov. 8, 2015 at his home. He was born May 12, 1930 in Franklin County to the late Harry Arthur and Minnie Lee Kidd Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by two sons, Rodney and Tony Smith, two daughters, Teresa and Virginia Smith, two brothers, Harry and Bill Smith, and four sisters, Audrey Wheelhouse, Elizabeth Belcher, Peggy Hammock, and Hazel Secrest.
Chick was a member of One Accord Baptist Church, and retired from Fieldcrest Mills with over 30 years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served in Germany.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Virginia "Jenny" Griffin Smith of the home, three sons, Buster Smith of Collinsville, Jeff Smith of Martinsville, and Tommy Smith of Penhook, two daughters, Sandy Smith of Patrick Springs, and Angie Woods of Martinsville, one brother Lawrence "Snuffy" Smith of Martinsville, two sisters, Patsy Woods of Richmond, and Iris Greer of Martinsville, ten grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be Wednesday Nov. 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm in One Accord Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday Nov. 10, 2015 at One Accord Baptist Church, and at other times at the home on 3467 County Line Rd., Patrick Springs.
