Mary Ruth Prater Brown age 81 of 58 April Blvd. Martinsville went to be with the Lord on Sunday July 13, 2014. She was born March 17, 1933 in Bassett to the late John Quince and Nina Bryant Prater. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Jack Prater, and Robert F. Prater.

She was a member of Martinsville Church of God where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and played the piano and organ. She was retired from Memorial Hospital of Martinsville, and also worked part time at Roselawn Burial Park.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rev. W. H. Brown of the home, one son, John H. Brown of Walnut Cove, NC, one daughter, Julia Foley of Collinsville, three sisters, Rachel Turner and Martha Harmon of Bassett, and Elaine Cassidy of Collinsville, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

The funeral service will be Tuesday July 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Dale Dyer, Rev. Dwayne Pruitt, and Rev. Jackie Poe officiating. Entombment will follow in the Roselawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 58 April Blvd., Martinsville.
