Obituary

Gene Marlene Minter Meadows, 89, of Martinsville, died Friday November 5, 2021, at Sovah Health of Martinsville.  She was born August 13, 1932, in Martinsville to the late Dorsey Eugene and Elizabeth Simmons Eggleston Minter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; William (Billy) Joe Meadows, sister; Lucy Dolores "Lois" Young, nephew; Bradley Todd Cochran, and great grandson; Quentin Alan Redd.

She was a graduate of Martinsville High School in 1950. She worked as an administrative assistant at Lacy/Pannill/Sara Lee for 45 years. She then worked for Chatham Heights Baptist Church as Administrative and Financial Secretary for 18 years before retiring at age 80.

Marlene was a long time member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, WMU Director, Stewardship Director, HCBA Youth on Mission Leader, and a member of several committees. She also served as a member of the Vocational Committee at Martinsville High School. She especially enjoyed the CHBC softball team as a scorekeeper and sponsor of an award dinner. She was also a member with her husband on several bowling teams, winning the Sportsmanship Trophy several years in a row.

Surviving are three daughters; Kathryn (Kaye) Elizabeth Lawson (husband Jerry), Susan Gayle Dove (husband Wayne), of Martinsville, Marlene Denise Gilley (husband Rick), of Henry, Virginia, one grandson; Wade Matthew Dove, two step-granddaughters; Nichole Leigh Redd (husband Chris) of Stuart, Virginia and ReVonda Michelle Gilley of North Carolina, and four step-great-granchildren; Kayla Nichole Redd, Cameron Alan Redd, Savannah Nichole Halbrook, Tyler Wayne Carr, and Kayra Shawn Carr

A memorial service will be held Thurdsay, November 11, 2021 at 12:30pm located at Chatham Heights Baptist Church, Martinsville. Family visitation will immediately follow the memorial service. Interment will be private at Roselawn Burial Park. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Michael Hatfield.
