Marlene Blanchard Lopez age 81, formerly of Axton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 4, 2016. She was born October 1, 1934 in Raleigh County, WV to the late Jesse Eugene and Icie Susan Summers Blanchard. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband Louis James Lopez, and her two brothers, Eugene and Bill Blanchard.
Mrs. Lopez was a member of First United Methodist Church. She retired from Tultex where she worked for 32 years as corporate administrative assist to Mr. Bill Franck. She had three years of college at Patrick Henry C.C., UVA branch. Mrs. Lopez was also a Hospice volunteer, a member of the National Secretaries Association, was Secretary of the Year, was Boss of the Year, served on the Board of Axton Lifesaving Crew, and she was the first woman President of the Laurel Park High School Athletic Booster Club.
She is survived by her son and wife, Brad and Sheila Lopez of Martinsville, her daughter, Marsha Lopez of Axton, her sister, Winnie B. German of Massillion, Ohio, six grandchildren, Cody Lopez, Nicholas Lopez, Charles Curtis, James Curtis, Jacob and Kristin Spencer, and two great grandchildren, Addison and Colton Spencer. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caring and devoted staff of Blue Ridge Manor.
Mrs. Lopez's service will be Friday May 6, 2016 at 7:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Keith Richie officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm prior to the service on Friday night at the Chapel. Interment will be private.
