Lucy Virginia Martin Rakes age 89, formerly of Spruce Village, died Sunday July 17, 2011 at the Golden Living Center, Martinsville. She was born September 25, 1921 in Martinsville to the late Harbour and Ethel Joyce Martin. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by one sister, Inez M. Vernon, five brothers, Harold Martin, Ernest Martin, J.P. Martin, Marvin Martin, and Kyle Martin.
She was a graduate of Fieldale High School and had worked at Fieldcrest Mills, Jessup Upholstery, and retired from Shenandoah Upholstery. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son, Steven Douglas Cage of Greensboro, NC, one brother Glyn Martin of Glendale, CA, and one sister, Peggy Young of Fork Mountain, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be Wednesday July 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Roselawn Burial Park with Rev. Phillip Woods officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
