Lindbergh Compton age 88 of Taylors, SC, and formerly of Martinsville, died Wednesday Jan. 20, 2016 at National Health Care in Greer, SC. He was born June 2, 1927 in Henry County to the late Buck and Ella Hodges Compton. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Rose Ingram Compton in 1988, and his three brothers, James, Leonard and Alvin Compton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a former member of the Merchant Marine, and was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church. Lindbergh retired from DuPont with over 42 years of service.
He is survived by his son Steve and wife Jayne Compton of Bedford, his daughter Linda and husband Dennis Elmore of Taylors, SC, four grandchildren, Matthew and wife Lisa Compton of Greenville, NC, Seth Compton of Bedford, Lisa and husband Stephen Armour of Denver, CO, Amy Patrick of Monroe, NC, and two great grandchildren Courtney and Lewis Patrick of Monroe, NC, and one sister, Inez Hundley of Collinsville.
Mr. Compton's funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday Jan. 27, 2016 in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Dennis Knight officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
