Leona Mitchell Rakes, age 84, of Axton, died on January 11, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. She was born in Union Hall, VA to the late General Lee and Alverta David Mitchell on June 01, 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Rakes in 2000, a brother, Silas Mitchell, and two sisters, Melva Arrington and Ethel Shelton.

She was a member of Forrest Hills Presbyterian Church and had retired with 37 years of service with E.I. DuPont. She had graduated from Glade Hill High School and attended Radford University and had an Associates Degree.

She is survived by her son, Frank L. Rakes of Axton, two daughters, Patricia Ann Goksel and Ernestine Harless and her brother, Paul Mitchell of Union Hall.

Her funeral services will be private.
