Leon Edsel "Ed" Barrow age 93 of Collinsville died Thursday May 16, 2013 at Franklin Health and Rehab in Rocky Mount. He was born August 28, 1919 in Martinsville to the late Tommy Joe and Ruth Anna Wade Barrow. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Louise Robertson Barrow, two brothers, Joseph L. and William "Bill" Barrow, and five sisters, Lucy Trehern, Nora Minter, Eunice Wall, Frances Davis, and Lona Wall.
He attended Martinsville High School, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville for over 40 years. On October 8, 1941 he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp and spent the next 2 ½ years in the South Pacific attached to the 5th Amphibious (Alligator Unit) where he made five landings on island beachheads, the last of these being Palau Island. He crossed the Equator four times and was awarded numerous medals for his service. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He worked for Electrical Products Corporation as a neon tube bender for over 50 years, and owned and operated A & K Sales in Collinsville and had customers all over the U.S. and Canada. He received a Certificate from the International Correspondence School with help from The U.S. Congress. Also he did original oil portraits for people thru International Artists.
He is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Adrian and Sandy Barrow of Jacksonville, FL, Kendall and Sharon Barrow of Collinsville, two daughters and a son in law, Gina Barrow of Collinsville, Yvonne and Steve Glass of Goodview, one brother, W. Maylon Barrow of Melbourne, Fl. four grandchildren, Derek Barrow, Todd Barrow, Marsha Moor, and Luke Glass, and seven great grandchildren, Faith Moor, Hope Moor, Grace Moor, Chasity & Kuric, Abagail Barrow, and Isabela Morales.
The funeral service will be held Monday May 20, 2013 the Roselawn Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with Military Graveside Rites by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Sunday May 19, 2013 in the Roselawn Chapel.
