Lacy Elwood Tawney age 90 of Martinsville, died Sunday Jan. 20, 2013 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. He was born September 11, 1922 in McDowell County, WV to the late Everett Hoge and Bertha Donathon Tawney. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers, Bill Johnson, Ed Johnson Albert Johnson, and Walter Tawney., and two sisters, Minnie Coleman and Hazel Roop.
He was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church where he was a former deacon. He had retired after 38 years service with E.I. DuPont.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Belle Spencer Tawney of the home, a son, David Tawney of Arizona, a daughter, Barb Tawney of Charlottesville, two brothers, Everett Tawney of Kellog, Idaho and Marvin Tawney of Augusta, Georgia, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rich Acres Christian Church with Rev. Tim Hunt and Rev. Creighton Beatty officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday
before the service.
