Kenneth Charles "Ken" Secrest age 76 of Martinsville passed away Wednesday July 9, 2014 at his home. Ken was born March 21, 1938 in Martinsville to the late William Roy, Sr. and Bernel Overby Secrest. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his son Gregory Charles Secrest in 2012, one sister, Linda Barbour, and two brothers, William Roy Secrest, Jr. and John Secrest.
Ken attended Drewry Mason High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he rose to the rank of SPC 4. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. He retired from E.I. DuPont in Martinsville with 28 years of service. Ken later worked in the area Virginia ABC Stores. Ken loved to be outdoors playing golf or bass fishing.
Ken is survived by his wife of 50 years Jeanette Robertson Secrest of the home, one daughter Cheryl Rigney and husband Michael of Martinsville, daughter in law Rileen Secrest of Collinsville, two brothers, Joseph Secrest of Marion WI and Stephen Secrest of Martinsville, one sister, Vera Claspil of St. Louis, MO, six grandchildren, Jackson and Carson Rigney of Martinsville, Blake Secrest of Collinsville, Eryn Secrest of Vidalia, LA, Lauren Hinson of Natchez, MS, and Tyler Secrest of the U.S. Marine Corps, step granddaughter, Lacey Mize of Collinsville, and two great granddaughters, Skyelah Hinson and Gage Hinson of Natchez, MS.
The funeral service will be Saturday July 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Jim Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with Military Graveside Honors by the U.S. Army and the Martinsvillle/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jackson Rigney, Carson Rigney, Tyler Secrest, Blake Secrest, Scott Secrest, Michael Secrest, Jerry Burton, and Jeff Claspil. Honorary pallbearers will be the veterans from Trinity Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 166 Quail Oaks Road, Martinsville.
