Joshua Ethan Drake, 22, of Ranson Road, Martinsville, died at his residence on November 2, 2014. He was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on March 2, 1992 to James Leslie Drake, Jr. of Bassett and Constance Mae Hunley Drake of Bassett. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Claude Hunley and James L. Drake, Sr.

He was a Bassett High School graduate, class of 2010 and had worked as a printer with Southprint. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard as a SPC and had served in Afghanistan.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his step-mother, Bonnie Drake of Bassett; brothers, Tyler Drake and James Bryant both of Bassett; sisters, Jessica Miller and Christy Hunley both of Bassett; and his grandmothers, Mary Hunley of Bassett and Frankie Drake of Commerce, Georgia.

SPC Drake's funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Sturgis officiating the service. Interment will follow with full military honors by the Army National Guard and the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard in the Roselawn Burial Park. His pallbearers will be members of the Army National Guard and they are, SPC Chad Lancaster, SSG Matthew Wahlberg, SPC Paul Acker, SPC Brian Arelt, PFC Chance Witt, SSG Stephen Faircloth, SFC Guy McCullum and 1SG David Garner. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home.
