Joseph Richard "Dick" Minter age 84, formerly of Ridgeway, passed away on Monday Dec. 29, 2014 at Blue Ridge Rehab in Martinsville. He was born May 30, 1930 in Henry County to the late Wylie Thomas and Fannie Betty Pace Minter. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Mutt Powell Minter, his brothers, Herman, Boyd, Virgil, Sterling, Nelson, Claude, Ed, Bill, Johnny, and Osco Minter, his sisters, Lila McGuire, Alma Scearce, Ada Pulliam, Dorothy Corum, and Marcella Minter. Dick was the last surviving member of his family.
Dick was a member of Morgan Ford Christian Church, and retired from DuPont with 35 years service as a TA in Research and Development. He also enjoyed volunteering with MARC Workshop, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Punkin Woodell and husband Darrell, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Shea Minter of Ridgeway, 3 grandchildren, Beth Warlick and husband Bert, Jay Bateman and wife Randi, and Kimberly Bateman, 3 step grandchildren, Kim Adkins and husband Scott, April Morris and husband Jamie, Kristan Gray and husband Jeff, 5 great grandchildren, Taylor Ramsey, Cullen Bateman, Reagan Gray, Avery Bateman, and Allyson Soderberg, 6 step great grandchildren, Shayla Woodell, Brianna Woodell, Brandon Adkins, Christopher Adkins, Britny Gray, Jeffry Gray, and one step great great grandchild, Tabitha Adkins.
The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday Jan. 1, 2015 at 4:00 pm in Morgan Ford Christian Church with Rev. Jones Oliver and Brother Thomas Joyce officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church, and at the home on Sinclair Street at other times.
