Johnny Buford Vaughn age 89 of Owens Street, Martinsville, passed away on Friday Jan. 23, 2015 at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1925 in Henry County to the late Ellis Lee, Sr. and Annie Hollandsworth Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one daughter, Mary Jane Kendrick, four brothers, Ellis L. Jr., Buren G., Harry V., and Brogie W. Vaughn, and four sisters, Eva Hickman, Erma Witt, Ruby Utt, and Marie Bell.
Mr. Vaughn was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army where he rose to the rank of Tech-4 while serving in the 304th Infantry Div. He was a longtime member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, and retired after over 35 years of service with Hooker Furniture and W.M. Bassett Furniture.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ross Vaughn of the home, two daughters, Judy Terry of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Barbara Lynn Vaughn of Shipman, VA, one brother, Larry Vaughn of Martinsville, one sister, Bessie Chitwood of Roanoke, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be Monday Jan. 26, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Dr. G.H. Vaughan officiating. Interment will be private in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Chapel, and at other times at the home on Owens Street.
