Obituary

John Wesley Holmes, age 77, of 380 Meadowood Trail, Martinsville, died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his residence. He was born on March 22, 1935 in Washington County to the late Tom Harrison and Ethel Carrie Talbert Holmes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers, Malcolm, McKinley, Arlie, Marvin, Lincoln, and Richard Holmes.
He was a member of Peoples Church of the Living God and was a deacon of the church. He retired with over 30 years service with American Furniture Co.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Eastridge Holmes of the home, his son, Lawrence Edward Holmes of Martinsville, two daughters, Angela Smallwood of Martinsville and LeAnne Mills of Bassett, two brothers, Henry Holmes of Duncan, SC and Donald Holmes of Abingdon, VA, five sisters, Frances Mutter of Hopewell, Kate Eastridge of Abingdon, Mary Perkins and Geneva Henegar both of Glade Springs and Jeanette DeShazo of Martinsville, five grandchildren , two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Bishop Dwayne Pruitt and Rev. Walter Brown officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn and at other times at the home on 380 Meadowood Trail, Martinsville, VA 24112.
Memorial donations may be made to Peoples Church of the Living God, 8136 Fairystone Hwy., Bassett, VA 24055.
