John White Anderson, Sr. age 74 of 20 Randolph Street Collinsville, died Wednesday January 11, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born December 30, 1937 in Crumpler, WV to the late John Robert and Essie Estelle White Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his Wife Linda Anderson on Nov. 11, 2011, and two sisters, Jane Effler and Sara Haller.
He was a graduate of Northfork-Elkhorn H.S., class of 1956, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Smith Memorial UMC, served on the committee of Boy Scout Troop 67 for over 15 years, was a Cub Master with Pack 166, was a member of the Order of the Arrow, served as president of the Fieldale-Collinsville H.S. Booster club, was a Life Member of Collinsville Volunteer Fire Dept., where he formerly served as Fire Chief, and previously worked for R.P. Thomas Trucking, DuPont in Martinsville, and was self-employed as owner/operator of Anderson Janitorial Service.
He is survived by three sons, John W. Anderson, Jr. of Longmont, CO, Jimmy Anderson of Collinsville, and Mike Anderson of Oak Level, two sisters, Judy Mills and Missie Wright both of Washington, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday Jan. 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Smith Memorial UMC with Rev. Dr. Tilden Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday January 13, 2012 at Smith Memorial UMC, and at other times at the home on 20 Randolph St., Collinsville.
