On April 26, 2025, our beloved Joan was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, at the age
of 87. While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing she is now in heaven- probably in
heels with her hair done just right. She was born on January 2, 1938 in Martinsville, Virginia to Samuel and Myrtle Pulliam. In
addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James F. Cecil, a sister Verona
Hall, and three brothers, R.L. Pulliam, Joe Pulliam, and Jimmy Pulliam.
Joan lived a life full of grace, strength, and a little sparkle. She loved the Lord, her family, and a
well- accessorized outfit. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her though every
high and low with a Bible in her hand and unwavering trust in God.
Her sass was divine, her wisdom deeply rooted in scripture, and her love for her family knew
no bounds.
She is survived by her nieces and their families, Terry Jamerson (Phillip), Robin Morgan (Jon),
Karen Bowles (Roger), Lynn Fender, and Penny Sheppard (Calvin), her beloved son Stephen
Cecil (Beverly) and her precious grandchildren Katherine Cecil and Jackson Cecil, who will carry
her legacy with pride, purpose, and a bit of her sparkle.
A devoted wife, mother, and aunt, her proudest role of all was being "Ninnie" to her
granddaughter and grandson. They were the joy of her life, and she poured her love, wisdom
and faith into their lives every single day.
The graveside funeral will be held at Roselawn Burial Park Monday, May 5, 2025 at 1 o'clock in
the afternoon. Family and friends will meet in the mausoleum one hour prior to the service beginning at 12 Noon, to share stories and memories of Joan and her life. Reverend Angela Zimmerman will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Boy Scout Troop 326, Starling
Avenue Baptist Church, and SPCA.
She lived fully, loved fiercely, and walked faithfully. We know she heard the words, "Well done,
good and faithful servant."
