Jessie Wright Kendrick age 84 of 185 Brentwood Rd. Martinsville, died Wednesday Jan. 23, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born July 28, 1928 in Callands to the late Bennie Green and Effie Rigney Kendrick. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers, James E., William D., Harry L., and Allen R. Kendrick, and two sisters, Mamie Reynolds and Nonie Gibson.
He was a graduate of Callands High School Class of 1948, and was a US Army veteran who served 15 months as a rifleman in Korea. He was a Exxon Service Station Manager/Operator for over 30 years at Chatham Heights Exxon and Villa Heights Exxon. He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Leona Shelton Kendrick of the home, three daughters, Cheryl Kendrick of Norfolk, Teresa Handy Edwards of Martinsville, and Sharon Kay Shelton of Axton, three grandchildren, Jessica Hyler, David Handy, and Courtney Shelton, 2 great grandchildren, Haley and Waylon Shelton, and one sister Lucy Kathleen Kendrick of Lynchburg.
The graveside service will be Sunday Jan. 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Roselawn Burial Park with Ross Gale officiating. Military Graveside Honors will be by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 185 Brentwood Road, Martinsville.
