Obituary

Jessie Emory Cobbler age 92 of 1107 Joseph Martin Highway Martinsville, died Saturday July 3, 2010 at his home. He was born July 24, 1917 in Martinsville to the late Jessie Ben and Ida Draper Cobbler. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Louise Shively Cobbler, and one brother Edgar Cobbler.
He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a surgical technician, after he graduated from the former Ridgeway High School. When he came home after WWII, he became well known in this area as a Master Wood Craftsman, having worked for many furniture factories in Henry County, and he built many specialized and one of a kind furniture pieces. He built the first grandfather clock produced by Ridgeway Clock which he later retired from. He was also a Master Clockworks Repairman becoming world renown for having repaired clocks from all over the world. He was a life long member of Fontaine Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and sang in the choir.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lynn Clark of Martinsville, and Regina Clifton of Madison, NC, one brother, Willard Cobbler of Fort Lauderdale, FL, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be Monday July 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Andrew Shanks, and Rev. Harold Draper officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday prior to the service in the Chapel at Roselawn, and at other times at the home on 1107 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville.
Memorial donations may be made to Fontaine Baptist Church, 170 Fisher Farm Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
