Jerry Henry Prater, age 86, of 1515 Grandview Road, Martinsville, died on March 06, 2011 at the Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, NC. He was born on April 11, 1924 in Henry, Virginia, to the late William Henry and Lucy Bet Scott Prater. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Jackson Prater, three brothers, Noah, Charles and Thomas Prater, one sister, Mary Marshall and one step-daughter Josephine Davidson.
He was a member of Fairway Baptist Church. He was a truck driver and had worked for Prillaman Chemical Company for over 32 years and Penske Truck Leasing for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Williams Sheppard Prater of the home, one sister, Rosie Barker of Martinsville, two step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 09, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home. Rev. Haywood Alcorn will officiate the service and interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 08, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn and at other times at the home of his sister, Rosie Barker, 1043 Liberty Street Ext., Martinsville.
