Obituary

Jean Lightfoot Robinson Parsons age 78, well known and respected co-owner operator with her husband Walter, of Parsons Antiques, went to be with the Lord on Sunday January 6, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She was born in Bombay, India on August 24, 1934 to John and Marjorie Lightfoot, both British citizens, who were on military tours of duty. She remained in India for 12 years before returning to England with her parents to attend Oxford University. She graduated from Oxford at age 16 with a four year degree and began teaching in a private school in England. Later she was employed as the secretary to the President of British Railway. She was also a member of MENSA.

Jean was a member of the Church of England, and her faith in God guided her in every aspect of her life. She had been co-owner of Parsons Antiques since 1956 and was one of the five original dealers instrumental in establishing what is known today as the Hillsville Gun Show and Flea Market. She had been an Avon Representative for over 35 years. Jean loved her annual antique buying trips to PA, with her daughter Debra and her fianc Charles, her annual fishing trip to the beach with her daughter Peggie, and every Labor Day when she made the trip to the Hillsville Gun Show and Flea Market she helped start.

Jean was a devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Her family was her life. She loved children, and everyone knew she had the patience of Job. She was always willing to help anyone in need and took the time to listen to their problems or concerns. She mentioned many times that one of the best gifts you can give to someone is your time, and she made time to do just that! She will truly be missed.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, and two sisters, Joyce Neve and Pamela Mizelle.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Walter F. Parsons of the home, two daughters, Debra Jean Parsons Buchanan and Peggie Sue Parsons Powell, both of Martinsville, two grandchildren, Bryan Kent Buchanan of Washington, DC, and Brittany Marie Buchanan of Modesto, CA, and special "Sister" Friends, Betty Whisnant and Nancy Thompson.

The funeral service will be Saturday January 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Bud Sedwick officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home of her daughter Debra Buchanan, 265 Station Drive, Martinsville.
