Jasper Randolph "Nick" Nichols age 73 of Axton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 20, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1943 in Henry County to the late Jasper Bunyan and Ruth Pyrtle Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his five brothers, Jackie, Curtis, Otis, Russell, and Ronnie Nichols, and one sister, Joyce Parrish.

Mr. Nichols was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of E-4, and receiving the following awards and decorations, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was operations manager at Schlueter Electric for many years, and he was of the holiness faith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther Wright Nichols of the home and, even though they never had children of their own, they have two nephews, one niece, one great nephew and one great niece, that were just like Esther and Randolph's own children, nephews Rodney Nichols and wife Tennille of Collinsville, and Bradley Chandler and wife Stephanie of Gibsonville, NC, niece, Melanie Turner and husband Ron of Bassett, great nephew, Hunter Nichols of Collinsville, great niece, Ashlee Turner of Bassett, three sisters, Catherine Chandler and husband Ricky of Cascade, Mae Agee and husband Mack of Axton, and Hazel Haley of Axton, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Thursday June 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Alton Bartee officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military graveside honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home of Catherine and Ricky Chandler, 5861 Whispering Pines Road, Cascade, VA 24069.
