Janet Prillaman Bennett age 83 of Collinsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday Aug. 20, 2017 at Blue Ridge Manor. She was born April 1, 1934 in Franklin County to the late Grady Prillaman and the late Mary Carter Prillaman Hurd. Janet was also predeceased by her step father Leonard F. Hurd.
Janet was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville, a graduate of Martinsville H.S. , Class of 1954, and worked at DuPont for 34 years as an inspector. Janet was a devoted member of Martinsville Temple #23, Pythian Sisters, where she was a Past Chief, a Past Grand Chief of the Grand Temple of Virginia, was a Past Supreme Temple Rep., and was also a 50 year Life Member of the Temple.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, R. Wayne Bennett of the home, one son and daughter in law, Billy and Karen Bennett of Martinsville, one daughter, Teresa Foley of Collinsville, three brothers and sister in laws, L.F. and Jinky Hurd of Collinsville, James and Carolyn Hurd of Roanoke, and Barry and Debra Hurd of Pawley's Island, SC, five sisters, Lois P. Ware and husband Al of Martinsville, Mary Frith and husband Buford of Rocky Mount, Phyllis Shockley of Martinsville, Carol Hopkins of Martinsville, and Jill Dudley and husband Ken of Martinsville, four grandchildren, C.J. Foley of Florida, Jamie Foley of Collinsville, Jonathan Bennett of Richmond, and Joseph Bennett of Indiana, and several great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend special appreciation to the staff of Blue Ridge Manor, and Mountain Valley Hospice for being so caring and compassionate to Janet and her family.
Her funeral service will be Thursday Aug. 24, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. John Wiederholt and Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday Aug. 23, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 603 Colonial Drive, Collinsville.
