James Larry Turner age 69 of Martinsville died Monday June 6, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born June 10, 1941 in Martinsville to the late William James and Mildred Newman Turner. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother W. Jerry Turner.
He was a graduate of Martinsville High School Class of 1959 where he was a member of the 1958 State Championship Basketball Team, and was senior class president. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Business Administration. He was a self-employed business entrepreneur and investor. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he had served on the Grounds Committee, and was a member of the Moose Lodge and former member of the Elks, and Pythians.
He is survived by one son, Scott Turner of Radford, one daughter, Lauren Turner of Martinsville, sister in law, Yvonne Turner of Martinsville, lifelong best friend Gerald Yeatts, and extended family in Henry County.
The memorial service will be Thursday June 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Martinsville with Dr. Dennis Knight officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church.
