Jack Eugene Lawson age 78 of Ridgeway passed away on Saturday July 23, 2016 at Baptist Hospital. He was born on July 14, 1938 in Lee County, VA to the late Frank and Verna Kinzer Lawson. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Jimmy Lawson.
He was a graduate of Stuart High School Class of 1954, received an Associates Degree in Criminology from Parkview College in Missouri, and received Certificates in Engine Building and Welding from Patrick Henry C.C. He retired from the U.S. Army as a SFC in the Military Police. For his service in the Korea and the Vietnam Conflict, he received the following awards and decorations; the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), 3 Overseas Service Bars, and the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in the face of superior enemy forces during the Tet Counteroffensive, RVN.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Venicia A. Lawson of the home, two sons, David Arnold and wife Dani, of Weatherford, TX, Roy Lawson and wife Donna, of Mebane, NC, two brothers, Richard Lawson of TN, and Paul Lawson of Bassett, one sister, Phyllis Matthews of Collinsville, three grandchildren, David Eugene Arnold of Clarksville, TN, Venicia Emory and husband Daniel of Durham, NC, and Anna Lawson of Burlington, NC, six great grandchildren, Chelsea Arnold, Julian Arnold, David Arnold, Jr., and Jacob Arnold, all of TN, and Elijah Emory and Elyse Emory of NC.
His Service of Remembrance will be Wednesday July 27, 2016 at 5:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Jerry Perdue officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Online condolences may be entered at www.roselawnchapelfuneralhome.com.
