Obituary

Herman E. Hancock, age 84, left this world from the comfort of his home on August 30, 2024. He was born on November 19, 1939, to Teamon and Lessie Dillon Hancock and resided in Bassett for the majority of his life.

Mr. Hancock was the talented owner and operator of Hancock Cabinets for 45 years and a proud charter member of Faith Baptist Church for 63 years. In his free time, he loved doing word search books, mowing his yard, and sitting on his front porch, where he was always sure to wave at his friends and neighbors as they passed by. Herman was a man who loved with everything he had in him and was therefore deeply loved by everyone who knew him in turn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred Hilton, Artena Dempsy, Junior Hancock, and Marvin Hancock, as well as by his wife, Rachel Dodson Hancock; his son, Richard Hancock; and his special cousin, Pauline Ratliff.

Mr. Hancock is survived by his daughter, Susan Hancock; his granddaughter, Taylor Hancock; and his daughter-in-law, Toni Hancock and a nephew, Lonnie Hylton.

The Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM on Friday, September 6, 2024, with the visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. The service will be held at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor John Shelley performing the opening prayer and Pastor David Towler doing a prayer at the private graveside service. The Pallbearers are Thomas Moore, Lester Rorrer, Jason Alverson, Danny Jones, Joe Gravely, Mark Spencer, and Mike Walsh, as well as the Honorary Pallbearers Norman Haynes and Johnny Glenn.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Faith Baptist Church or the local Rescue Squad on his behalf.
