Harold William Thomason age 93, formerly of Collinsville, passed away Tuesday Dec. 31, 2013 at King's Grant. He was born May 31, 1920 at Oak Level to the late Albert F. and Cassie Metz Thomason. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by six brothers, George F., John R., Orrin S., O.C., James D., and H. Wilson Thomason, and his four sisters, Thelma Fulcher, Annie Prillaman, Madaline Prillaman, and Beatrice McFall. Harold was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, where he rose to the rank of SGT. He saw action in the New Guinea, Southern Philippines Campaign, and the landing at Luzon. He received the following awards for his service, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon, Philippine Campaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal w/2 Bronze Stars. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith, was a self-employed building contractor for over 40 years, and was a former member of the Collinsville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife Irene Bowling Thomason of King's Grant, his special nephew and wife, Bryan and Kathy Martin of Ferrum, who were his and Irene's caregivers for many years, and many other nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be Friday January 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with military honors by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Entombment will be in the Roselawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at Roselawn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the charity of the donors choice.
