Goldie Handy Martin age 88, formerly of 405 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, died Friday Feb. 19, 2010 at Tonys' Extended Years in Martinsville. She was born May 18, 1921 in Patrick County to the late Martin Lewis and Sarah Vipperman Handy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George L. Martin in 1985, her four brothers, Ray, Willie, Charlie, and Herbert Handy, and one sister Ruby Hayes.
She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church, and retired from American Furniture Co. with over 20 years service.
She is survived by one daughter Brenda Bollings of Martinsville, three sons, Fred Martin of Martinsville, Paul Martin of Henryville, IN, and H. Lee Martin of Bowling Green, KY, one sister Ocie Coleman of Richmond, VA, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Monday Feb. 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Revs. Haywood Alcorn and Tony Lundy officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday, and at other times at the home of her daughter Brenda Bollings at 410 St. Johns Circle, Martinsville.
