Gloria Pendleton
Robertson
Nov 23, 1934 — Oct 16, 2026
Bassett, VA
Gloria Pendleton Robertson, affectionately referred to herself as “The Lady in Waiting,” transitioned from this life at the age of 91, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC., then entered into the presence of her Lord and Master.
Born on November 23, 1934, in Eden, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ethan Greene Pendleton and Iva Gertrude Haley Pendleton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Pastor Albert J. Robertson, and her sister, Sara P. Hicks.
Raised in a devoted Christian home, Gloria developed a lifelong spiritual foundation early in life. Through her family's active church involvement, she met and married Albert Robertson. They shared 56 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. For 49 of those years, the couple faithfully pastored North Martinsville Pentecostal Holiness Church, later renamed Adventure In Faith Church. Together, they traveled countless miles ministering to others in homes, hospitals, jails, and nursing homes.
Above all, Gloria embraced her calling as a devoted wife and mother. While some occasionally questioned her priorities when her three children were young, her unwavering philosophy was clear: she did not want to try to save the world while letting her own children slip through her fingers and miss heaven. In later years, when her husband’s health began to fail, she tenderly cared for him. Standing by his casket, she grieved that there was nothing more she could do for him, offering a final, poignant gesture by wiping her tears on his hands.
Outside of her ministry and family life, Gloria found joy in simple pleasures. She loved the mountains, working jigsaw puzzles, and word search puzzles, though she would readily admit her favorite indoor sport was eating. Growing up with the childhood nickname "Sugar Lump" which later shortened to “Lump” and eventually “Granny” in her later years she was deeply cherished by those who knew her. She attended Martinsville Church of Truth, treasuring the fellowship, and the worship with her church family. She held profound gratitude for her numerous friends who called, visited, brought meals, sent cards, and, most importantly, kept her in their prayers. The family will never forget the outpouring of love and compassion from Mountain Valley Hospice C.N.A. Ebony, Dr. Waite and staff of Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.
Gloria is survived by her loving family of two daughters and sons-in-law; Elizabeth and Steve Wright, and Ruth and Kelly Ratcliff, one son and daughter-in-law; James and Treva Robertson, sister, Mary Lousie “Penny” Ramsey, three grandchildren; Amanda, and Derick (A.J.) Robertson, and Dena (Cody) Rabon, three great grandchildren; Toby, Landon, Katelynn (DJ), two Great-great grandchildren; Myla and Zadyn, her extended family; Brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also, her beloved fur babies, Sug, Little-Bit, and Bella.
Services honoring Gloria’s Life, will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the Martinsville Church of Truth with Pastor Bill Preskitt, and Rev. Randall Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
