Gloria Pyron Minter Bonton age 86 of Martinsville passed away Sunday Nov. 22, 2015 at her home. She was born Sept. 6, 1929 in Pittsylvania County to the late Charlie and Dona Compton Pyron. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her foster parents, George and Faith Simmons, her first husband, Samuel Minter, her second husband, Artie Bonton, her brothers, Jesse and Albert Pyron, and three sisters, Louise Campi, Pauline McCubbins, and Clara Shelton.
Gloria taught Sunday school for over 30 years, and was church treasurer/clerk for over 25 years at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She was a volunteer with Memorial Hospital of Martinsville Auxiliary for 25 years, and while her health permitted she was an active member of Martinsville Temple #23, Pythian Sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Ann Minter of the home, and one sister, Dorothy Simpson of Clinton, TN.
Her funeral service will be Tuesday Nov. 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. George Agnew and S.T. Fulcher officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Gloria may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 7174 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, VA 24054.
