Glenwood Lee Arrington age 78 of Martinsville went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 26, 2014 at Trinity Missions in Rocky Mount. He was born on
February 5, 1936 in Rocky Mount to the late Sam B. and Zelma Pearl Hudson Arrington. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Hodges Arrington, a son, Michael Arrington, brothers, Sydney Arrington, Edward Arrington, and Earnest Arrington, sisters, Beatrice Arrington, Myrtle Elliott, Nancy Cassell and Annette Wall.
He was a member of the Church on the Hill in Collinsville, and had attended Bassett High School. Glenwood was retired from Roy Stone Transfer as a truck driver with 25 years service, had worked for 10 years at Hooker Furniture, was part owner of the Putt- Putt Golf Course at Laurel Park. He was also a member of the Professional Putters Association, where he was the National Champion in 1996, and was also an avid golfer and member of Beaver Hills Golf Club. He volunteered at the Golden Living Center.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Edith C. Arrington of the home, sons, Kevin Arrington and Robert (Lydia) Arrington both of Rocky Mount, daughters, Maybelle (Johnny) Dowdy of Rocky Mount and Donna Arrington of Vienna, VA, step-children, Pastor Dan (Linda) Cole of Matthews, NC, Deborah (Curtis) Hartless of Troutville, and Robin (David) Abbott of Martinsville, brothers, Othello Arrington and Maurice Arrington both of Bassett, Gilbert Arrington of Lexington, NC and Anthony Arrington of Ferrum, a sister, Gloria Lynch of Kernersville, NC, Special brother-in-law, Daniel Cassell, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Martin officiating the service and special music by grandsons, Chris Cole, Andrew Abbott and Kiana Espinoza with interment following in the Roselawn Burial Park, and pallbearers will be Aaron Abbott, Andrew Abbott, Michael Arrington, James Dowdy, Josh Arrington, D.J. Cole, Dustin Via and Curtis Hartless. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn and at other times at his home at 206 Summit View Drive, Martinsville.
